After Foster and McPhee sparked dating speculation in May 2017, his daughter Erin appeared to confirm the relationship by posting a photo of the couple to Instagram and telling followers she was excited about her “new stepmom.”

McPhee was by the songwriter’s side as he was honored at a Grammy Museum Gala on September 19, 2017. Within the next two months, they stepped out together for his 68th birthday party in Los Angeles and for a Lakers game.

McPhee seemed to mince her words in her cover story for Health’s December 2017 issue. “I’m really, really fond of him, and I think he’s an incredible person,” she said of Foster. “I’ve known him since I was 21 years old, you know? He produced my first single. So he’s been really good to me. People can say whatever they want.”

In December 2017, Foster’s daughter Sara Foster exclusively told Us Weekly she and her siblings were Team McPhee. “We totally approve!” the 90210 actress said. “We just want someone that’s going to treat him well and that cares about him, and I think he’s with someone right now that really does.”

At the end of an exclusive interview with Us Weekly on the red carpet of Steven Tyler’s inaugural Grammy Awards viewing party on January 28, 2018, Foster excused himself by saying, “I’ve got to go get my girl.”

The couple exchanged vows in front of more than 100 guests at the Church of Saint Yeghiche in London on June 28, 2019, with the bride wearing a custom Zac Posen dress that had musical notations from one of the groom’s songs sewn into it. An insider told Us Weekly the ceremony was “really intimate” and “magical.”

McPhee and Foster hit their first red carpet as husband and wife at the 44th Annual Toronto Film Festival Tribute Gala in September 2019. The twosome looked lucky in love as they celebrated the premiere of the producer’s new documentary, David Foster: Off the Record.

In a joint interview with Today in November 2019, McPhee opened up about being a longtime fan of Foster. “I’ve always just admired him and loved him, and he’s always been so great to people around him,” she explained.

While reminiscing on ending her run on the Broadway production of Waitress, McPhee spoke about her experience finding love with Foster. “I fell deeply in love with this show; I fell in love with my then-boyfriend and later got engaged during this show,” she wrote via Instagram in January 2020. “I lost my father during this show; I lost my voice in between doing the show; and then I got married during this show. That warm pad under the DX7 piano when it comes in wowwwwwwwwww,” Puth tweeted in June 2020, while McPhee retweeted it and said, “The real reason I married David.”

Us confirmed in October 2020 that the singer is pregnant with her and Foster’s first child together.

The pair welcomed their first child together, a son, in February 2021.

McPhee revealed on Today in March 2021 that she and Foster named their son Rennie David Foster after the music producer’s great-grandfather and great-uncle.

“Right now, I feel like [Rennie’s] a really good combination of [me and Foster],” the American Idol alum told Us of her baby boy in October 2021. “A lot of people say he looks just like his dad — I see it a lot, but a good combination I would say."

After performing a number of duets together, the Smash alum and the 16-time Grammy winner were unmasked as Banana Split on season 6 of The Masked Singer in December 2021.

Before the new year, Foster shared an Instagram photo of his wife in a bikini and praised her postpartum figure. “What baby!” he captioned the picture.

The veteran music exec clapped back at skeptics of the 34-year age difference between him and McPhee. ”People always make the reference with Kat and I with the age difference, but I've always said there's so many things that can bring a marriage down, and age difference is just one of them,” he told People in February 2022. “There's so many things that can go wrong. We think we have it pretty together."

Foster shared a sweet snap for Valentine's Day in February 2022.

“Poor guy … too bad he doesn’t get very much attention,” the “My Destiny” performer gushed via Instagram in July 2022, sharing a photo of herself and Foster making out.
