Uploads still slow

My upload speed still sucks. Here is the link to the last one I just ran. »support.sbcglobal.net/cg ··· obal.net Soad said that he was going to rebuild me in the router last week. I have been testing every day to see if anything changed. So far I am seeing the same if not slower results. Could there be something wrong with the line between me and the CO? I haven't changed any wiring in the house recently, so I don't think it is inside. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What kind of tweaking have you done to your system randavis?

Just for grins if you would post a tweak test, by coping and pasting the URL in little black letters in the text of the test I will gladly check it out for you to see if that could be your problem.

Ram;)

uploads don't "rampup", what kind of speeds are you getting? what speed test sites? did you use verbose?

Thanks for posting a tweak test for me. Currently your receive window (RWIN) setting is default for XP or 17520.

You can experiment with the following settings to see if it will help out at all. Try 23360, 32120 or 37960. I'm assuming that you have DrTCP downloaded and running on your desk top. If not you can download it from the following FAQ in the Tweak Forum.

»Tweaking FAQ »DRTCP: How do I use it and what are all these settings?

The first box is the receive window (RWIN) setting, this is the one were you can experiment with the RWIN settings I have given you above.

On the other settings, set everything at default except for Max Duplicate ACK's & TTL, this should be left blank with no number shown (grayed out). Then hit save, O.K., reboot your system so the changes can take hold and you should be good to go. In general you really can't do much for your upload speeds, this is generally left to your ISP or provider. So this may not do much for that, and you still might have to call them and tell them about your trouble.

I tried some of those numbers with the following results:

Test for 23360

»support.sbcglobal.net/cg ··· obal.net

Test for 32120

Your Throughput

Download = 1.287 Mbps
Upload = 55.46 kbps

»support.sbcglobal.net/cg ··· obal.net

Test for 37960

Your Throughput

Download = 1.237 Mbps
Upload = 55.40 kbps

»support.sbcglobal.net/cg ··· obal.net

That brought it up a little, but it is still a far cry from 128.

Maybe I need a tech to check out the line.

Thank you guys for all of the help. I know that you must get tired of the same problems.

I've been battling the slow upload from the get go. I don't know that there is a lot you can do if you can't upgrade to the 256 package. I've tried tech, there are no significant tweaks especially for xp, and even cried and cussed (sometimes at the same time), but eventually you just accept it and move on. I've been about a year with mine and it's not so bad after you get used to it.

Yes something is effecting your upload speeds. At 37960 you should easily get the 80% of your download and upload capabilities.

If you haven't had kmac1 check your line, thats what I would suggest at the current time. Hopefully Ken can take a look at your line and see something that might causing you the trouble with your upload speeds that we can't pin point. So I would give him an buzz via the sites IM and give him a brief scenario and the problem your currently having, plus your DSL phone number so he can check it out for you.

Look everyone, let me say this one more time.

There are NO CAPS on the upload stream! NONE!

They way ADSL is laid out in the DMT spectrum, you would have to totally lose the download before the upload started being effected, barring any lower frequency disturbers. I've taken a look at lot of lines lately where the "uploads" were supposedly capped. They're not. If you are using the speedtests, they seem to have a major problem with implementing the java used in the tests. Try to do a true FTP upload and something like DUMeter. You'll see the real transfer rate then.

Ken
